Graphic Archive of the 1950s: Digital Rescue of Original Negatives

How we recovered 12,000 archive images on glass plates

The Oldskoolimages team worked for six months on the restoration and digitization of a batch of 12,000 negatives on glass plates from a Buenos Aires studio from the 1950s. The material includes graphic campaigns for brands of household appliances, automobiles, and beverages that defined the aesthetics of the era. High-resolution scanning techniques with manual color correction were applied to preserve the original tones. The result is a unique collection now available for commercial licenses on our B2B portal.

Retro Aesthetics in Modern Campaigns: Real Use Cases

How brands are using vintage images to connect with current audiences

We analyze three recent campaigns by Argentine brands that used images from our photographic archive to build nostalgic visual narratives. A Mendoza winery used portraits from the 1960s for its premium wine line; a sportswear brand combined photos of athletes from the 1970s with contemporary typography; and a telecommunications company rescued illustrations of rotary dial phones for a loyalty campaign. In each case, we detail the image selection process, license negotiation, and impact on brand perception.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about licenses, searching, and downloading archive images.

We work with standard and extended commercial licenses. The standard license covers campaigns in print and digital media with a limited print run. The extended license allows mass reproduction, television use, and merchandising applications. For agencies with recurring needs, we offer volume packages and annual agreements with unlimited downloads. All contracts specify territory, duration, and exclusivity.

The B2B portal allows filtering by decade, photographic technique, color or black and white, orientation, and thematic keywords. You can also search by photographer name or source studio. Results include complete metadata: year, location, original format, and conservation status. Searches are saved in the account history to facilitate work on long campaigns.

All digitized images are available in their original resolution, which varies depending on the source format. For 35mm negatives, we offer files up to 40 megapixels; for 4x5 inch glass plates, we reach 120 megapixels. Files are delivered in 16-bit per channel TIFF and maximum quality JPEG. We also generate web-optimized versions if the use requires it.

Yes, a significant part of the archive contains portraits and scenes with people. In those cases, we have signed image use authorizations from the subjects or their heirs, depending on the age of the material. Each image includes a note in its metadata about the status of the image rights. For campaigns requiring additional legal certainty, we can issue a specific authorization certificate.

We issue an electronic invoice with details of each licensed image, the type of license, and the validity period. Volume packages are invoiced in advance, and downloads are deducted from the contracted balance. For annual agreements, we issue a single invoice at the start of the contract. We work with bank transfers and direct debit. All prices are expressed in Argentine pesos.

Terms and conditions of use

The following clauses govern the acquisition of licenses for stock images at Oldskoolimages. By accessing the B2B portal and downloading any content, the client accepts these terms in their entirety.

1. Subject of the license

The images and photographs available in the archive are licensed for commercial use in advertising, print media, digital platforms, and audiovisual productions. The resale, redistribution, or transfer of raw digital files without written authorization from Oldskoolimages is expressly prohibited.

2. Territorial and temporal scope

Each license is granted for a specific territory (Argentine Republic or Southern Cone region) and for a determined period, according to the contracted plan. The validity begins on the date of download of the first file. Use outside the territory or after expiration will require renewal or extension.

3. Usage restrictions

The use of images in contexts involving defamation, pornography, incitement to hatred, tobacco products, alcohol, or any illegal activity is not permitted. The extraction of metadata, manipulation that alters the original meaning of the work, or the application of watermarks other than those of Oldskoolimages is also not authorized.

4. Liability and warranties

Oldskoolimages guarantees that it holds the copyright to all images in the archive or has the necessary authorizations for their licensing. The client assumes the responsibility of verifying that the intended use does not infringe the rights of third parties (trademarks, individuals, properties). No implied warranties are granted beyond those expressly established.

5. Termination and validity

Breach of any of these clauses will entitle Oldskoolimages to terminate the license immediately, without prejudice to claiming corresponding damages. The validity of the agreement is governed by the contract date and the specific conditions of the chosen plan.
